2004 Gimblett Road Reserve
Cabernet Sauvignon 45% Merlot 41% Malbec 14% |
|
Grown organically, with no animal related additives used in production.
For the past few years where yields were affected by frosts, I have been making wines from neighbouring vineyards. These have not been organic, although the quality has been of a similar standard.
This wine is a return to the style and quality of my Gimblett Road vineyard. The eleventh vintage from the organic vineyard produced clean, ripe fruit, which was hand harvested and given a good measure of new French oak for 15 months. As with past wines, patience for a few years will be rewarded.

“Deep and moderately dense wine with strong red and black berry flavours together with a hint of mint and attractive spicy oak. Good cellaring potential.”
Bob Campbell, Oct 2005
“Deep red, sweet cedary aromas with a hint of leather and quite lifted flavours of dark chocolate, leather, blackcurrant, plum, creamy oak, succulent tannins and a warm, rich finish. Very fragrant - musk, violet, cedar - and chocolate cedar on the aftertaste. Juicy and creamy.”
Sue Courtney, Nov 2005
“Deep, dark, plum tinged red… The mid-palate is suave and subtle, with deep berry fruit. There is a pleasant anise-like character at the finish, which adds interest to a rather subtle, fascinating wine.”
Keith Stewart, April 2006
**** ½ “Fresh, clean and alive, just starting to reach the mellowing phase. Nicely rich and intense in the Kingsley tradition, a well made and balanced red.”
Winestate, Peter Saunders, July 2006
